Headteacher's Welcome

MAEPS is a Pupil Referral Unit which is constantly changing to meet the

ever changing needs of schools and the young people in the borough of North Tyneside.

We work with local schools in partnership to help them achieve the best possible

outcomes for our young people. They deserve nothing less!

We are well respected by parents/carers, students, local schools and other key agents.

We have lots of evidence to support this and are very proud of this fact.

I am proud to lead MAEPS where staff are simply amazing just like the students we teach.

We value nurture, positivity, trust, compassion, respect, forgiveness encouraging a new start every day.

Our staff demonstrate high levels of engagement and caring for our student’s welfare and educational needs, treating every student as an individual, with a personalised approach allowing them to build bridges to success and achieve their full potential.  This is more than a ‘job’ for our staff, we want to change lives and give every student the chance to change their lives, improving their chances in the future.

At Moorbridge our vision is to ‘Build Bridges'....... this may be in the relationships the students have with their mainstream school, development of the students own self confidence and self-esteem,  bridging the gap in their education where external issues have impacted on the students learning, development of strategies to help the pupil succeed in mainstream school......and many more.  Embedded in our culture of continuous questioning, evaluation and improvement, whereby we are developing a culture of research to ensure we have the best methods of engagement for all students.

Our results show that this commitment is paying off.  The  Level of Progress Data and GCSE 5 9-4 Data demonstrates that we far exceed both regional and national results for Pupil Referral Units as compiled by the DfE; an excellent achievement for which both staff and students should be very proud. We achieved 63% 9-4 grades.  Students at KS3 are progressing in an outstanding manner in the time that they are at Moorbridge and all groups of students – LAC, FSM,PP, Girls, Boys, SEN – all progress in line with national expectations, many of them progressing even better than this.   Students whose baselines are significantly lower than would be expected for their age and their year group have interventions planned to ensure they catch up.

We have a number of provisions at MAEPS – all designed to meet the individual needs of students at three separate buildings, to ensure students feel as comfortable as possible.

MAEPS Shiremoor – Long Term KS3 and KS4 Route 16 Alternative Provision(Vocational Learning)

MAEPS Oswin Terrace – KS4 Well Being Alternative Provision  (Academic and Vocational Learning) and PMLS (Personalised Learning Service) – provision for students requiring 121 support due to Medical or EHCP needs.

MAEPS Blanchland Terrace – Personalised Learning Service - STEPS

Please do not hesitate to contact us if you would like more information about any of our provisions.

Thank you for taking the time to read our website.  I hope you will get a flavour of the nurturing, caring and successful environment that we strive to achieve at MAEPS (Moorbridge Alternative Education Partnership School), helping young people develop to be the best they possibly can be in North Tyneside.
